Jefferson Award Winners

Rick and LaVerne Torrence were recipients of the prestigious Jefferson Award on April 10, 2003. The Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis and Senator Robert Taft Jr. as a way to recognize individuals for their community and public service efforts.

WTVH 5, sponsors of the award, wrote the following:

Rick and LaVerne Torrence: They are the founders of "Winds of Agape," a family-oriented community agency servicing families in need. The Torrences are dedicated to helping others help themselves through their job training programs, Stop the Violence campaign, and Families in Crisis program, which assists major local agencies with furniture, food and household items.
